NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal YouTube channel has crossed the 20 million (2 crore) mark in terms of the number of subscribers, making Modi the first world leader to achieve the distinction.
Officials noted that the videos posted on Modi’s channel have more than 4.5 billion (450 crore) views, far ahead of other global leaders.
Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is second on the list with number of subscriber 6.4 million (64 lakh)— less than a third of Modi’s.
In terms of views, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is second to Modi with 2.24 million (22.4 crore), a small fraction of Modi’s.
US President Joe Biden has 7.89 lakh subscribers while President of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan has 3.16 lakh.
“Yoga with Modi’, a YouTube channel linked to the Prime Minister, is also high on the list with more than 73,000 subscribers.
Among other notable Indian leaders, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi’s channel has more than 3.5 million (35 lakh) subscribers, a little over a sixth of Modi’s.
For several years in a row, many global surveys like Morning Consult have rated Modi as the most popular global leader, with upwards of 75 percent approval rating, far above his global contemporaries.
