WhatsApp has been testing several new features on its platform including new emoji reactions to group size and privacy improvements such as hiding last seen and profile pictures from certain contacts. It seems that the Meta-owned instant messaging platform isn’t done yet as the company is now reportedly planning to introduce a group icon editor for its desktop client.
WABetaInfo has reported that the instant messaging platform is testing the ability to create custom group icon for desktop. Also note that the feature is already available for beta users on WhatsApp Android and iOS apps since last year.
Now, as per the reports, the company is planning to bring the feature on desktop as well.
As per the screenshot shared by WABetaInfo, users can now choose a different photo as a group icon and the drop down menu also includes the option — Emoji & sticker. Which means, users can also choose to use emojis and stickers as the group icon.
As the feature is already available on Android and iOS, the desktop version is also expected to offer similar functionality. Also, the group icon editor tool will allow users to quickly create a group icon by choosing a background colour, an emoji or sticker and set it as the group icon.
As far as official rollout of the feature is concerned, it is currently uncertain when WhatsApp will rollout the group icon editor in the final build across all the platforms.
